Nerolidol, also known as peruviol, is a naturally occurring sesquiterpene found in the essential oils of many types of plants and flowers.There are two isomers of nerolidol, cis and trans, which differ in the geometry about the central double bond.
Nerolidol is present in neroli, ginger, jasmine, lavender, tea tree, and lemon grass, and is a dominant scent compound in Brassavola nodosa.The aroma of nerolidol is woody and reminiscent of fresh bark.

Nerolidol is a secondary terpene. It is thought to have a sedating effect. There are a number of medical applications being studied for this terpene, including its effectiveness at facilitating transformer medications. Other possible medical uses include its use as an antifungal, antiparasitic, and antimicrobial compound. For example, it is also possibly toxic to malaria and other protozoa.
In clinical trials, nerolidol helps enhance absorption in water-based applications by more than 200 times. Other uses include its use in helping produce retinol and its use in healing skin lesions. It is a natural remedy for mites. Nerolidol is also effective against insomnia; it is a natural sleep aid because of its sedative qualities.
Like other terpenes, nerolidol is naturally produced in plants and is used as a way to defend the plants against insects.Application:
It is used as a flavoring agent and in perfumery.
It is also used in non-cosmetic products such as detergents and cleansers.
